Harry B. Guildford, Surrey

Back in 2013 we were contacted by a Mum who needed sensory toys for her son, 3-month-old Harry, who, had been diagnosed with HLH (Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis) a rare life-threatening immune disorder where the body reacts inappropriately to a trigger, usually an infection. Specialised white blood cells (known as T-cells and macrophages) become over-activated, causing severe inflammation and damage to tissues such as the live, spleen and bone marrow.

Harry desperately needed a Bone Marrow Transplant and would be in an isolation room at Great Ormond Street Hospital for three months.

We had absolutely no hesitation in providing a variety of sensory items and in our small way, to help Harry and his family through this incredibly difficult time.

We always encourage parents to keep us updated with their child's progress and 9 years later, Harry's Mum sent us the following:-

At 3 months old my son was diagnosed with an extremely rare life-threatening condition- HLH secondary to XIAP deficiency. Great Ormond Street hospital said his only chance of survival was a bone marrow transplant.

The conditions of transplant are extremely strict, and we were advised to get new toys and books which could be easily cleaned on a daily basis.

Lifeline4Kids provided us with amazing toys which generously I was allowed to choose. We couldn't have asked for more. My eldest son who faced months of disruption and upset being parted from his brother was also treated to lots of toys.

We went into transplant when my son was 8 months old, this unfortunately failed.
With a second transplant looming Lifeline4Kids provided us with a parent handled tricycle which we took into hospital with us.

We went into transplant again when my son was 16 months, thankfully this was a success.

The tricycle had many trips out of the hospital when my son started to recover, and he loved it.

The toys, books and especially the tricycle were so appreciated and used and loved and we can only say THANK YOU!

You provided what we could not and made the hardest time of our lives a little easier.

My son is now a happy, cheeky, stroppy and delightful 9-year-old whom we all adore.

Lifeline4Kids - thank you ❤️

TODAY MARKS EXACTLY 8 YEARS SINCE HARRY WAS DISCHARRGED FROM HIS SECOND TRANSPLANT. THE FIRST PICTURE SHOWS HARRY OUTSIDE GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSIPITAL ON HIS TRIKE, THE SECOND SHOWS HARRY NOW! (Click on pictures to expand)

We are delighted with this heart-warming update and so proud to have been of help.

Good luck Harry and may you continue to flourish in the future with good heath and happiness xxxx
